NYC Is Full and Sinking
Add "rising ocean levels" to the list of New Yorkers' concerns, because the city is sinking, a new study finds. The study says that New York City is literally sinking under its own weight. “We can’t sit around and wait for a critical threshold of sea level rise to occur, because waiting could mean we would be missing out on taking anticipatory action and preparedness measures,” said Andrew Kruczkiewicz, a senior researcher at Columbia University’s Climate School. New York Battered! Catastrophic Flooding submerged cars and homes in Brooklyn, NYC
Off the Northeast coast, a coastal storm has formed, releasing torrential rain on the greater New York City region. According to AccuWeather meteorologists, many additional inches of rain will fall in the region, potentially resulting in life-threatening floods into the weekend.
According to Jon Porter, Chief Meteorologist at AccuWeather, "it appears that the rainfall from this storm could be New York City's heaviest rainfall since Hurricane Ida in 2021." On the first day of September of that year, a tropical storm brought severe floods and more than 7 inches of rain to the city.
